Audiobook plans compared
Audible sells four plans in the US, and they are two shapes rather than four. Standard is the plan without credits: one audiobook selection a month from the full collection, listened to for as long as the membership runs. Premium is the plan with credits: one credit a month, and a credit buys any title Audible marks as credit-redeemable, whatever its length or list price. The remaining two are the same Premium membership sold a year at a time.

A Standard membership gives one audiobook selection a month from the entire collection, and the audiobooks you select stay listenable for as long as you stay a member.

An audiobook bought with a credit is yours to keep even after the membership is cancelled. The plan page states it twice, once in the plan description and once in its own FAQ.

Sources:Audible plan pageA Standard selection is not a purchase. On cancellation the selections are lost, and they show a lock icon in the Library until the membership resumes.

Credits roll over month to month, so a month you do not spend is not a month you lose.

A Premium membership opens the included catalogue — Audible Originals, audiobooks and podcasts that are listened to without spending a credit. On the plan page this arrives with the monthly Premium membership rather than with Standard.
